CHESTERVILLE — Two men face burglary and theft charges after being arrested over the weekend by police investigating a break-in last month in Chesterville.

Two firearms and tools were stolen from a trailer and shed used at 173 Adams Road on Sept. 25, with the items worth about $800, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

After getting tips from residents, deputies arrested James P. Moore, 34, of Wilton, and Scott W. Kidder Sr., 31, of Farmington, and charged each with burglary and theft of firearms, Yeaton said.

They were being held Tuesday morning in Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, jail officials said, unable to provide the bail conditions. All the stolen items have been recovered and returned to the owner, who lives in a nearby residence on Adams Road, Yeaton said.

Man faces drug charges after raid

WELD — A 28-year-old man faces a felony drug trafficking charge after deputies said they found 15 pounds of marijuana inside his Weld residence.

Franklin County sheriff’s deputies received a tip Friday that Travis Pratt had been growing marijuana outside on his property, Lt. Niles Yeaton said.

Armed with a warrant, deputies raided his 832 Phillips Road residence later that day and found about 25 harvested plants drying inside, along with drug paraphernalia, Yeaton said.

Deputies seized the drug paraphernalia and marijuana, which was sent to the crime lab in Augusta to be weighed after early estimates put the amount at between 15 to 18 pounds, Yeaton said. He estimated the marijuana was worth $25,000 if sold illegally on the street.

Pratt was summonsed on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, with his court date set for Jan. 20 in Farmington.

Youth hurt in church pony accident

WATERVILLE — A young person was injured Halloween night after being hit by a pony at Calvary Temple Church’s 5th Annual Fall Family Festival.

Few details were available about the incident. Denise Lafountain, head of school, declined to discuss it except to say that the injury was sustained by the owner of the pony and that the injury involved was not serious

“Everybody’s fine,” she said.

According to Waterville police dispatch records, ambulances were called about 6:30 p.m. and transported someone to the hospital.

The outdoors festival on Monday night was the biggest the church has yet hosted and attracted about 1,000 people to the West River Road, Lafountain said. The festival was open to the public and included children’s activities, a petting zoo, a hay ride, refreshments, and more.
