NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Merrimack jumped out to a four-goal lead and beat the University of Maine 6-2 in a men’s Hockey East game Friday night.

Carter Madsen scored at 5:51 of the first period to give Merrimack (12-4-4, 8-3-2 in the conference) a 1-0 lead. The Warriors pushed it to 2-0 when Jordan Heywood scored from Elliott Sheen and went up three goals just 1:08 into the second period on a goal by Kyle Bigos.

Jesse Todd beat Maine goalie Dan Sullivan (18 saves) 1:08 into the second period to give Merrimack a 4-0 lead. Maine got on the board at 9:34 when Jordan Parker scored his first collegiate goal.

Spencer Abbott got Maine within two when he scored from Brian Flynn at 13:30 of the second.

Merrimack scored two straight power-play goals to push its lead to 5-1.

Maine falls to 10-8-2, 7-7-1 in the conference.

Trinity 7, Colby 4: Dan Nelson had three goals and Scott Harff three assists, but the Mules lost to the Bantams in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game in Hartford, Conn.

Trinity (5-7-0, 2-5-0) scored two goals in the first 8:20 of the second period to take a 4-1 lead. Colby got within a goal later in the period when Mike Doherty and Nelson scored, but Trinity answered back with a goal late second to go up 5-3.

Colby falls to 3-10-0, 1-8-0 in the conference.

Women’s basketball

Colby 67, Bates 57: In Lewiston, Diana Manduca led five Colby players in double figures with 15 points as the No. 24 ranked Mules defeated the Bates women’s basketball team 67-57 on Friday night.

Jil Vaughan contributed 13 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Aarika Ritchie added 11 points and seven assists, and Rachael Mack and Jacky McLaughlin chipped in 10 points apiece for Colby (10-1, 2-0 NESCAC).

Meredith Kelly scored 14 points and Molly Brown added 12 and a team-high five rebounds for the Bobcats (6-8, 1-2 NESCAC).

Annie Burns scored eight points and added four assists and a pair of steals.

Women’s hockey

Colby 1, Conn. College 1, OT: Annie Papadellis scored in the second period as the Mules earned a tie with the Camels in Waterville.

Andrea McRae scored in the first period for Conn. College (4-5-2, 2-4-1 in the NESCAC).

Brianne Wheeler had 43 saves for Colby (4-7-2, 1-5-1 in the conference).
