WATERVILLE — The AAA Northern New England Office at 13 Washington St. will offer driver license renewal and replacement services starting Monday.
The new venue is part of a pilot project launched by the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles and AAA to increase availability of services in the Waterville region and help process an expected increase in license renewals in the coming months, according to press releases from both the Bureau and AAA.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the AAA office. Secretary of State Charlie Summers and Eric Cyr, president of AAA Northern New England, will be on hand.
“I’m pleased to work with AAA Northern New England on this pilot program,” Summers said. “It’s exciting to be part of a partnership where government and the private sector are working together to provide quality services to Maine’s licensed drivers in more locations with flexible hours of operation and without there being any additional cost to the consumer, businesses or the state.”
The AAA branch office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
The  pilot project will be evaluated and the state and AAA expect to introduce the services to all 9 AAA offices in the state later in the summer.
The service is available to both AAA members and the general public.
“This is an excellent example of a public private partnership that enhances services to our members and the motorist of Maine,” Cyr said. “We are excited with the opportunity to partner with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and expand the locations and hours of license renewal services in Maine.”
