WINSLOW — Winslow High School head football coach Mike Siviski forwarded the DVD until he found the play he wanted to see. There, on the television in Siviski’s office, Dirigo’s Spencer Trenoweth ran past the Oak Hill defense for a 70-yard touchdown. Siviski forwarded the film again, this time to Trenoweth’s 51-yard touchdown run late in the game.
“That’s what we’re up against,” Siviski said. “He’s just a tremendous runner.”

Winslow (9-1), the top seed in the Campbell Conference Class C playoffs, hosts No. 3 Dirigo (8-2) of Dixfield at 12:30 p.m. today in the conference championship game. The winner will play either John Bapst of Bangor or Foxcroft Academy in the Class C state championship game next Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
These teams met in Week 2 and Dirigo left Poulin Field with a 32-21 win. Dirigo head coach Dave Crutchfield said his team doesn’t look at that game as a measuring stick for the rematch.
“Winslow is a tough team and they’ve only gotten better since we beat them,” Crutchfield said. “We’re looking at them like a team we haven’t seen.”
Stopping Trenoweth, a 1,000-yard rusher, is just one of the challenges facing the Black Raider defense. Dirigo quarterback Brett Whittemore threw for more than 1,000 yards and tossed three touchdown passes when the Cougars beat Winslow in September.
“(Trenoweth’s) got game-breaking speed. Hopefully, we can get him some holes,” Crutchfield said.
Added Siviski: “They’ve got a good line. They’ve come from behind a few times.”
Joe Hopkins leads Winslow’s strong run game with 1,256 yards. Dylan Hapworth (823 yards) and Zach Guptill (794) also see a lot of carries for the Black Raiders. Quarterback Bobby Chenard hasn’t been asked to throw often, but still has 499 yards passing with five touchdowns. Hapworth (17 catches, 271 yards) and tight end Owen Dutil (seven catches for 61 yards) are Winslow’s top receivers.
“We expect them to throw the ball,” Crutchfield said.
Defensively, the Black Raiders are led by linebackers Mike Clark (90 tackles), C.J. Kelley (85 tackles) and Brock Deschaine (60 tackles, three sacks). Justin Martin has three interceptions.
The Black Raiders are coming off a 7-0 win over Traip, their first shutout of the season.
“I’m very pleased with our defensive effort against Traip. We had some touchdown-saving tackles. It’s a new week and you move on. This will be a tough game,” Siviski said.
