CHESTERVILLE — A Caldwell Lane man was arrested Monday after police said he shot at, but missed, a neighbor inside the neighbor’s home.

Three other adults and three children were also in the 40 Caldwell Lane home when Philip Caldwell Jr., 29, fired a handgun at the other man Monday morning, according to Sgt. Peter Michaud of the Maine State Police.

The shot went through a wall and no injuries were reported, Michaud said.

He said the shooting may have stemmed from an earlier altercation that is still being investigated.
The homeowner could not be reached for comment and the phone line was out of service Monday.

After the shot was fired, the adults and children left, and one of the adults called police at 8:57 a.m., Michaud said.

When police arrived, Caldwell walked out of the house, down the driveway to them, where he was arrested on a charge of reckless conduct with a firearm, Michaud said.

Maine Warden Service and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the shooting.
Caldwell was taken to the Franklin County Jail, where his bail was set at $5,000.
