WATERVILLE — Students from Winslow High School’s career prep and Job’s for Maine’s Graduates classes recently toured 13 area businesses. Students were assessed to determine their interest areas and were then paired with businesses. The purpose is for students to learn about careers available in the region and teach them about the level of education, hours, income, etc. about specific fields of work.
Mid-Maine Chamber has partnered with JMG and Winslow High School in order to close the skill gap and to keep young professionals in the region.
The businesses provide students with information about occupations in their field of work so a person who knows nothing about it will get a fairly clear picture of it. The importance of the field is outlined with what kind of education requirements are needed in order to work in the specific field. The business leader also goes over income, favorable and unfavorable features and opportunities that are available in central Maine in that field.
