BRUNSWICK — Four players scored their first collegiate goals and head coach Blaise MacDonald secured his first win with the Mules in the Colby College men’s hockey team’s 6-1 win over Suffolk University on Saturday during the first day of the Bowdoin-Colby Face-Off Classic at Bowdoin College.

Tyler Lingel, Matt Gelnaw, Jonathan Sdao, and Robert McCormick all had their first collegiate goals for Colby. Nick Lanza and Spike Smigelski also scored for Colby (1-3).

Colby’s Matt Delaney made 14 of his 28 saves in the scoreless second period.

Steve Drago scored for Suffolk (3-3-1) in the first period.

Women’s basketball

Virginia Commonwealth 74, Maine 58: The Rams had four players score in double figures to take the win in Orono.

Robyn Parks scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for VCU (2-3), which openen an 11-point lead early in the game. Zakia Williams added 16 points for the Rams.

Maine (1-5) went on a 6-0 run early in the second half to cut VCU’s lead to six points. but the Rams responded with a 10-0 to put the game away.

Brittany Wells led the Black Bears with 12 points. Liz Wood added nine points and four rebounds for Maine.
