CHELSEA — Rescuers removed a Jeep after it slid off Togus Road Sunday and wound up nestled against a house.

The driver, Lawrence Babb, 61, of Chelsea, was taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta with what were believed to be minor injuries, said Deputy Chief Everett Flannery of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

Flannery didn’t know if anybody was in the house at the time of the accident, but a report indicated only Babb was injured. The report did not say how extensive damage to the house was, Flannery said.

A neighbor, Robert Drisko, said the house did not appear to have serious damage.

The police report says Carol Grenier owns the home at 535 Togus Road. Attempts to reach Grenier on Monday were unsuccessful.

The accident occurred around 8:06 a.m. as Babb drove a 2005 Jeep Liberty south on Togus Road. The Jeep hit a patch of ice and slid out of control before crashing into the house, Flannery said. No charges are expected.
