PORTLAND — A winter storm expected to drop up to two feet of snow on parts of Maine has prompted Gov. Paul LePage to close all state offices.
The Republican governor says all state government offices are closed on Thursday, but are expected to open on schedule on Friday.
City Manager Mark Rees announced that Portland City Hall will be closed Thursday due to inclement weather. City Hall offices will resume regular business hours Friday.
The National Weather Service says the highest totals should fall across the foothills and into central portions of Maine. South and east facing slopes of mountains should also see more than a foot.
Gusty winds are expected to result in drifting and possibly power outages, although neither Central Maine Power not Bangor Hydro Electric Co. was reporting outages early Thursday.
The Maine Turnpike Authority at the request of state police has reduced the speed limit along the entire length of the highway to 45 miles per hour.
