FARMINGTON — A Wilton man accused of firing a semiautomatic handgun during a recent dispute remained in jail Wednesday after his bail was set at $10,000.

The man, Timothy Koehler, 30, was arrested at 1 a.m. Tuesday after Wilton police responded to a 911 hang-up call at his home at 929 Main St. in Arkay Trailer Park, according to Franklin County Superior Court records.

The arresting officer, Chad Abbot, reported that when he arrived, he heard a woman’s voice in the mobile home yell, “You pointed a pistol at me,” according to his affidavit.

When Abbot entered the home, Koehler asked to be arrested, according to the affidavit.

Koehler said he fired the handgun into the wall above the woman, then gave the gun to her and asked to be shot, according to the affidavit.

Abbot reported he found a bullet casing on the bedroom floor and saw a bullet hole. He said the bullet appeared to have gone through the bedroom wall, through the bathroom wall and into the kitchen area.

The woman reported she tried to call a friend after the gun was fired, but Koehler allegedly took the phone and broke it, according to the affidavit. Abbot reported that he found the phone in two pieces on the bed. He also reported finding a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun and a loaded magazine on a bed in the mobile home.

Koehler is charged with aggravated reckless conduct and domestic-violence criminal threatening.

During Koehler’s court appearance Wednesday, Judge Nancy Carlson ordered him to have no contact with the victim and to undergo a mental health evaluation. He is in the Franklin County jail, and his next court appearance is set for Feb. 22.

Wilton police Chief Heidi Wilcox reported Koehler and the woman both had moved to Wilton recently from Arizona.
