AUGUSTA — Gun control, coyote predation and legislative bills coming up this year are among the issues to be discussed when the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine holds its 18th annual congress.

Friday’s daylong meeting at SAM’s conference center in Augusta will start off with a review of 2012 issues by David Trahan, the executive director of the hunting and fishing group.

State game officials will update the group on Maine’s ongoing deer management effort, which is designed to rebuild the deer herd in regions of the state where numbers have fallen sharply.

The day will wind up with a discussion of gun control. Attorney General William Schneider is scheduled to be among the speakers.
