AUBURN — A judge has approved a request by a Lewiston man charged with stabbing his girlfriend to move his trial to Portland.

A lawyer for 26-year-old Cleveland Cruthirds argued in the motion for a change of venue that a “large majority” of the jury pool in Androscoggin County had some connection to the case, “causing an unusual amount of conflict of interest in jury selection.”

The Sun Journal reports that Cruthirds’ trial is now scheduled to be held in Cumberland County Superior Court on April 8.

He remains held on $250,000 cash bail.

Cruthirds is charged with attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, aggravated assault and burglary.

Authorities say Cruthirds became angry when he found out his girlfriend had been in contact with her former boyfriend.
