Police nab alleged shoplifters following foot chase

WATERVILLE — Police arrested a man and woman accused of shoplifting after a foot chase Thursday.

A Save-A-Lot store clerk called police at 4:47 p.m. and reported he was chasing the alleged shoplifters out of the store and down the street, Patrol Sgt. Alden Weigelt said.

Weigelt said the two police officers in the area arrested the suspects after chasing them on foot.

One officer found the accused man around Albert S. Hall School and chased him to a backyard between Park and Winter streets, where he was arrested.

The other officer found and arrested the woman around Handy Ma’am Housecleaning Service.
