UPDATE:
FAIRFIELD — Fairfield police officer Bill Beaulieu was in stable condition complaining of neck and back pain this afternoon after a crash that closed U.S. Route 201, police said.
The highway from Ohio Hill Road to Interstate 95, near downtown Fairfield, is expected to reopen by 2 p.m.
Fairfield police Sgt. Matt Bard said Beaulieu was southbound about 11 a.m. when he attempted to make a quick turn on the highway to follow a northbound car.
Beaulieu’s cruiser was struck by a truck, which also was northbound, destroying the cruiser and sending the truck into trees. The truck’s driver was not injured, Bard said. The truck had minor damage.
No charges are anticipated, he said.
Maine State Police troopers have set up a small tent to conduct an accident reconstruction.
FAIRFIELD — A Fairfield police officer was injured in a motor vehicle accident this morning that has closed U.S. Route 201 to traffic from Ohio Hill Road toward downtown Fairfield.
Fairfield police dispatcher Jeanne Kempers said Officer Bill Beaulieu has been taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries is unknown.
Maine State Police troopers are assisting local police at the scene of the 11 a.m. accident. Delta Ambulance and Fairfield Rescue also are on scene.
