PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Fire officials are investigating a five-alarm fire at an upscale waterfront condominium complex in Portsmouth that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.

A fire that broke out around 6:30 p.m. Friday sent flames through the third floor of the brick condominium building on Bow Street, destroying the center portion of the roof and causing extensive damage throughout. Nobody was injured in the fire.

Fire Chief Christopher LeClaire said the fire appeared to have started in a chimney and spread into a ceiling.

LeClaire was unsure how many of the building 18 condo units were damaged, but said many residents were displaced because of the fire.
