Portland Press Herald sports columnist Steve Solloway and the Maine Sunday Telegram sports section were among the early winners announced Tuesday in the Associated Press Sports Editor annual writing competition.

Solloway earned a top 10 honor for column writing in the 30,000-75,000 circulation category. The Sunday sports section also was recognized in the top 10 in that category.

The Kennebec Journal, which also is owned by MaineToday Media, earned a top five honor for Sunday sections in the 15,000-under circulation category.
