A West Gardiner man is expected to face numerous charges in connection with the theft of more than a dozen chain saws in central Maine.

Aaron Morgan, 32, was arrested Thursday on outstanding warrants as he was delivering one of the stolen chain saws to a buyer in the Penobscot County town of Corinth, said Sgt. Aaron Hayden of the Maine State Police. Hayden said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

The investigation began Wednesday when police responded to a report that several chain saws had been stolen from Kramer’s, a powersport and equipment store on West River Road in Sidney.

“Mr. Kramer himself saw a posting on Craigslist with similar chain saws and notified the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and State Police,” Hayden said.

Troopers and deputies found some of the chain saws in Corinth and confirmed they had been stolen from Kramer’s and from J&M Camper & Marine on Civic Center Drive in Augusta, Hayden said.

Troopers and deputies stopped Morgan’s car in Corinth on Thursday and arrested him on the warrants. Morgan was delivering one of the chainsaws to a buyer at the time of the traffic stop, Hayden said.

“A total of 12 chain saws have been recovered thus far,” Hayden said. He said Morgan also is suspected of stealing a chain saw from a car in Fayette.

Police believe Morgan sold a number of chainsaws on Craigslist. He asked anyone who purchased a chain saw from Morgan to contact Trooper Matt Casavant at 624-7076.
