RIPLEY — Town Meeting is strictly routine business this year, according to Ripley Town Clerk Vernal Sinclair.

The proposed municipal budget is $4,000 greater than this year’s, largely because of winter road maintenance, plowing and sanding, according to Sinclair.

The proposed municipal budget is about $271,000, he said, funded at a property tax rate of $17 per $1,000 of assessed value, a rate that increased last year from $16.50.

The board isn’t able to estimate any changes in this year’s tax rate because of possible state cuts to municipal and school funding, and the budget proposal includes no spending for schools or the county tax.

Elections of one selectman and the town clerk and tax collector will be held from the floor of the meeting.

Sandra Blaney’s term as selectman has expired, and she is likely to seek re-election for another three-year term. Sinclair is seeking re-election as town clerk and tax collector, a position he has held since 1995.

The meeting is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday in the town’s Grange Hall on Route 23.
