CARRABASSETT VALLEY — A 6-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after suffering serious injuries at Sugarloaf Ski Resort on Monday morning.
The girl was skiing with her family on Kings Landing trail, an intermediate trail when she went off the trail and hit a tree, according to Ethan Austin, Sugarloaf communications manager.
Austin said he did not know what the girl’s injuries were, characterizing them as serious.
The ski patrol dispatch center got a call at 11:40 a.m. and responders were at the site by 11:44 a.m., Austin said. The girl was taken to the first aid clinic by noon and immediately transferred from there to an ambulance. It was not known which hospital the girl was taken to.
The accident was the second one in two days that sent a skier at the resort to the hospital.
On Sunday another girl was taken to a hospital after going off a trail and hitting a tree. Austin said they originally had reports that she was 16 years old but now think she was 10 years old.
The girl, who was wearing a helmet, was skiing on the beginner portion of Candy Side trail when she went off the marked area between 10 and 10:30 a.m.
Austin said she was taken in an ambulance to Carrabassett Valley Airport where she was flown to a hospital. Austin was not sure which hospital she was taken to.
