Spectrum Generations has nominated two of their volunteers, John Eckert of Augusta and Laura Baker of Damariscotta, for the Governor’s Awards for Service and Volunteerism.

Eckert started volunteering in 2010 at Spectrum Generations Cohen Center in Hallowell, focusing on the Meals on Wheels and Community Lunch programs. He is considered the lead packer, working with fellow volunteers to pack and seal hot and frozen meals for homebound seniors, according to a new release from Spectrum Generations.

Eckert retired from the VA Maine Healthcare System at Togus in 2010 as a veterans administration benefits program coordinator, and before that spent 26 years in the Armed Forces.

Baker has been volunteering at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center for 16 years, where she answers phones, gives rides, assists with Meals on Wheels distribution, recycles and decorates for the holidays, among other tasks.
