WATERVILLE — Former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson is coming to Maine to deliver a speech at Colby College.

The three-term senator from Wyoming will be at the Waterville school on Wednesday to deliver the 2013 George J. Mitchell Distinguished International Lecture.

Former Sen. George Mitchell, who’s from Maine, will be at the event.

Simpson served in the Senate from 1979 to 1997. More recently, he was co-chairman of President Barack Obama’s commission to reduce the federal deficit.

The lecture is free and open to the public. It’s sponsored by the Goldfarb Center for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement.
