HALLOWELL — An Augusta teenager and her dog were reunited safely after the pooch was rescued from the ice in Jamie’s Pond.
Game Warden Steve Allarie said the teen called 911 around 3 p.m. Friday when her full-sized Rottweiler was stranded on the ice. The dog would not jump off the ice and was reportedly unable to swim, Allarie said Monday.

The warden spoke to the girl on the phone and agreed to see what he could do.
“She wanted to go on the ice and I insisted that she didn’t,” Allarie said.
Maine State Police Trooper Christopher Rogers met Allarie at the pond, and two Manchester firefighters also arrived to lend a hand, Allarie said.
The teen, who was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, had tried to retrieve her dog and was already showing signs of hypothermia, Allarie said.
The warden grabbed a catch pole and his float jacket and tried to coax the dog to shore. He said the dog was near the edge of the ice, which was separated from the shore by about 25 feet of open water. Allarie waded in toward the ice edge in water that he said was about 4 feet deep, but the dog still refused to cooperate.
Moments later the dog broke through the ice and Allarie was able to grab it and lead it to shore.
“It was cold,” he said. “The dog was definitely not willing to come to shore.”
Allarie said he was unsure how the dog got on the ice. He said both dog and owner are fine.
“I was glad to help,” Allarie said. “I don’t want to see anyone lose their dog.”
