WINTHROP — Mario Meucci and Ben Allen each had three singles and two RBIs to lead Winthrop past Mountain Valley 12-2 in a Mountain Valley Conference baseball game shortened to six innings due to the mercy rule Monday.

Jared Hansen earned the win, allowing seven hits while striking out two and walking one in six innings. Tyler Stockford and Matt Sekerak had two singles and two RBIs apiece for Winthrop (1-0) while Hansen added two singles.

Tom Marshall had two hits and an RBI to lead the Falcons (0-1).

Messalonskee 3, Lawrence 2: Ben Frazee plated the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the fourth inning to lift the Eagles to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A win in Oakland.

Messalonskee (2-1) trailed 2-1 before scoring twice in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Devin Warren earned the victory, allowing just one hit while striking out two in a complete game. He also had two singles and an RBI.

Cody Martin pitched the complete game for Lawrence (0-3).

Hall-Dale 7, Spruce Mtn. 5: Taylor Lockhart and Nick Sinclair each had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (1-0) to the MVC win in Farmingdale.

Brian Allen earned the victory in relief of Bobby Cumler. Freshman Ryan Sinclair picked up the save when he entered the game in the seventh and got the last two outs.

Spruce Mountain dropped to 0-2.

Lewiston 6, Erskine 4: A late rally by the Eagles fell short as the Blue Devils came away with the KVAC A win in South China.

Erskine scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh and left the bases loaded. Shawn Soucie singled, doubled and drove in two runs while teammate Josh Bailey singled twice and drove in two runs. Tom Hurd led Lewiston (3-0) with a double and two singles. Erskine is 0-3.

Softball

Winthrop 13, Mountain Valley 1, 5 innings: Randi Dennett had a double and three singles to lead the host Ramblers to the MVC win.

Abby Helm added a triple and two doubles for Winthrop (1-0). Kristin Doughty pitched a two-hitter to earn the win.

The Falcons are 0-1.

Messalonskee 12, Lawrence 1: Courtney Veilleux, Natalie Hunt and Phoebe Pelletier each had three singles to lead the Eagles to the KVAC A win in Oakland.

Bri Garland added a three-run double and a single for Messalonskee (3-0). Emily York had a double and two singles while Kylee Knight and Nikki Collier were also repeat hitters with two singles apiece.

Bri Emery led Lawrence (0-3) with a double and a single while Molly Moen and Sydney Knowlton each had two singles.

Erskine 14, Lewiston 0, 5 innings: Alyssa Gartley had three singles to lead the Eagles to the KVAC A win in South China.

Kaitlyn Sutter and Avery Bond had two singles apiece for Erskine (1-2). The Blue Devils are 0-3.

Hall-Dale 6, Spruce Mountain 4: Emily Maynard and Emma Begin each had two singles to lead the Bulldogs to the MVC win in Farmingdale.

Olivia Maynard earned the win for Hall-Dale (1-0).

Lorayanna Tracy and LeDesta Tracy had two singles apiece for Spruce Mountain (0-1).

Men’s lacrosse

Maine Maritime 10, UMF 5: Nick Betti scored three goals to lead the Mariners to the North Atlantic Conference win in Farmington.

Alex Hermes and A.J. Larrabee each added two goals for MMA (5-8, 5-3) while Nick Snelling, Cameron Wyman and Evan Carrier had one apiece. Oscar Adams made five saves.

Mike Foley scored three times for the Beavers (4-6, 4-4). TC Peters and Brandon Melville had one apiece. Ben Altmaier stopped 16 shots.
