WATERVILLE — Michelle Burt made 12 saves and Lindsey McKenna scored four times to lead fourth-seeded Colby to an 11-3 win against fifth-seeded Amherst in a New England Small College Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse quarterfinal game Saturday.

Colby improves to 12-3 overall and will play in conference semifinals against second-seeded Middlebury College next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity College.

Burt made six saves in each half. McKenna who topped the 40 goal mark for the third time in three years, scored four times in the second half to break the game open. Katharine Eddy, Abby Hatch and Tess Petesch  added two goals each for the Mules while Alex Mintz scored once.

Thomas 20, Husson 12: The Terriers scored 11 straight goals, including nine straight to start the second half, on their way to a win over the Eagles in a North Atlantic Conference semifinal game in Castleton, Vt.

No. 2 Thomas advances to play No. 1 Castleton in the championship game today.
Ceara Dibiase had five goals, Jillian Lambert added four goals and Brittany Premo had three goals and an assist to lead the Terriers.

Miranda Tinsman, Erin Nelligan and Jenn Day all had two goals each for Thomas. Day added two assists.

Brittany Fox earned the win, making 12 saves.

Haley Huntington had four goals, while Caitlyn Stauffer had three and Alissa Fallon and Amanda Mora each had two for Husson.

Softball

Tufts 2-7, Colby 0-0: Rebecca DiBiase and Aly Moskowitz pitched shutouts to lead three Jumbos to the sweep in Medford, Mass.

Meaghan Lewis had two of Colby’s four hits in the opener while Kelsey Yardumian pitched well in the loss.

Boston University 2-9, Maine 0-5: The Black Bears dropped an America East doubleheader to the Terriers in Boston.

Beth Spoehr allowed five hits and fanned four for Maine in Game 1.

Baseball

Colby Sawyer 1-7, Thomas 0-3: The visiting Chargers swept the North Atlantic Conference doubleheader in Waterville.

James McLamb was the tough luck loser in the first game, striking out five.

Skowhegan graduate Cody Vigue had a pair of hits and two RBIs for Thomas (13-23) in the second game.

Colby Sawyer is 19-15.

Maine 5-1, Hartford 3-3: Tommy Lawrence ran his record to 8-2 for the Black Bears in the first game of an America East doubleheader.

Brian Doran drove in three runs and Eric White had pair of hits for Maine (25-16, 14-5).

Three pitchers limited the Black Bears to three hits in the second game for Hartford (13-27, 10-10).

Bates 5-7, Colby 3-2: Cony graduate Luke Duncklee had two hits as the Mules dropped a doubleheader in Lewiston.

Jake Kramer added a pair of hits in Game 1 for Colby (9-18, 2-10 in the conference).

Men’s lacrosse

Husson 11, Thomas 2: Mitch Heaps had four goals and two assists as the Eagles beat the Terriers in a North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal game in Bangor.

Cony High School graduate Dillon Shaw had a goal an and assist for Husson, which advances to play New England College in the semifinals Wednesday. Brandon Carbo had three goals and two assists, while Nolan Brown had a goal and an assist, Vinny Visconti one goal and Messalonskee graduate Chris DelGiudice an assist.

Parker Chute and Sean Machin each scored for Thomas, which ends the season 7-8. 

Maine Maritime 15, UM-Farmington 4: The Mariners scored 10 first-half goals and cruised to a win in a NAC quarterfinal in Castine.

The Mariners improve to 6-8 overall and advance to Wednesday’s semifinals. UMF ends the season 4-7.

Nicholas Betti scored five goals for MMA.

Mike Foley had two goals, while Zack Rowland had two assists for UMF. Madison graduate Jake Linkletter also scored for UMF, while Mt. Blue graduate Ben Altmaier had 17 saves in the loss.

Also Saturday: Skowhegan native Becca McCarty pitched the Husson softball to the NAC championship and a berth in the NCAA Division III tournament. McCarty struck out eight and allowed just one hit as the Eagles blanked Castleton State 6-0. It is the fifth straight NAC title for Husson. McCarty improved to 11-5. … Gardiner graduate Forrest Chadwick had three hits and drove in five runs to lead the University of Southern Maine to a 15-1 win over Keene St. Messalonskee grad Sam Dexter added a single, double and drove in two runs while Erskine grad Nick Grady had a hit and an RBI. … Waterville native Kyle Bishop had a sacrifice fly in a 3-2 loss to New England College in Henniker, N.H. Husson’s J.T. Whitten, also of Waterville, had a two-run double in a 12-3 win in Game 2. Waterville native Josh Gaudette also homered for Husson.
