CHINA — Several teens and a homeowner were charged after police broke up an alleged underage drinking party Friday.

Three juveniles, reportedly on their way to a party, were charged with alcohol and drug possession during a traffic stop on Route 3.

William Levesque, 57, of Fire Road 43, was subsequently charged with furnishing alcohol to minors.

The events began to unfold Friday evening when Maine State Police Trooper James Macdonald stopped a vehicle on Route 3 after it reportedly failed to stop at a red light before turning right, according to a police report. Macdonald noticed cases of beer in the back seat and smelled marijuana when he approached the car, according to the report.

The driver and back-seat passengers, all of whom were 16, were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The driver and one of the backseat passengers also were charged with marijuana possession. The driver also was charged with illegal possession of alcohol.

Later on, early Saturday morning, troopers went to the Fire Road 43 house to which the teens had been driving, according to the report.

“Troopers immediately located several juveniles sitting around a campfire,” the report said. “Some were noticeably intoxicated.”

Levesque, who denied knowledge of the party, was issued a summons, according to the report.
