WATERVILLE — Colby College will be well-represented when the New England Basketball Hall of Fame holds its induction for the Class of 2013 on June 22 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.

Colby College graduates Therese Langlois ’85, Kevin Whitmore ’91, Joseph Jabar ’68, longtime men’s basketball coach Dick Whitmore, and current Harold Alfond Director of Athletics Marcella Zalot will be inducted as part of the 2013 class in next week’s ceremony.

Dick Whitmore was inducted as a coach with the first class of the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002, but will be inducted again with eight others in the icon category for individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to New England Basketball. Langlois and Kevin Whitmore will be inducted as Division III players, Jabar is under the Scholar-Athlete category, and Zalot also will be inducted in the Division III playing category for her time at Smith College.

Dick Whitmore finished with a 637-341 record in 40 years as the head men’s basketball coach at Colby. He was seventh all-time in career wins among NCAA Division III men’s basketball coaches and ranked 46th in all NCAA divisions for career wins at the time of his retirement after the 2010-11 season. Whitmore was also was inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame in 1998.

Langlois, who also excelled in the classroom and graduated Cum Laude, was an NCAA Division III All-American after her junior year and became the first Colby women’s player to reach 1,000 career points by the end of her junior season. She ranks fourth all-time in scoring at Colby with 1,378 points and had her uniform number retired. Langlois was an All-New England selection her final three years with the Mules and made Maine All-State all four seasons.

Kevin Whitmore, the son of Dick Whitmore, was a 1991 All-American for the Mules and finished with 1,357 points in just three seasons (76 games) after transferring from Dartmouth College. Despite playing just three years, Kevin still ranks 12th all-time in scoring at Colby. He was a deadly 3-point shooter, nailing 188 3-pointers in his three seasons at Colby.

Jabar, a current Maine Supreme Court Justice, was strong in basketball and baseball during his time at Colby. He has already been inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame and the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame. Following his graduation from Colby and the University of Maine School of Law, Jabar served as a federal prosecutor for the Justice Department in Washington, D.C. He returned to Maine and served four years as District Attorney for Kennebec-Somerset Counties. For 25 years he was a member of the law firm of Jabar, Batten, Ringer and Murphy of Waterville.

Zalot still holds Smith College women’s basketball records for career rebounds (957), career rebounding average (11.2), single-season rebounds (315), rebounding average in a season (13.7 in 1984-85), and rebounds in a game (23). Zalot, a 1987 graduate of Smith and a standout goalkeeper for the Smith women’s soccer team, also ranked second at the time of her graduation in scoring with 1,029 points and currently is eighth all-time. She arrived at Colby in 1997 to serve as associate athletics director after working for Harvard University and the NCAA.
