JAFFREY, N.H. — Police in Jaffrey are investigating what’s being called the untimely death of a hiker who was descending a trail on Mount Monadnock.

Police said 48-year-old Bryce Griswold of Mendon, Mass., collapsed and became unconscious due to an apparent medical condition while hiking down the Red Spot Trail at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Griswold’s hiking companion is an emergency medical technician and started CPR on him, but was unsuccessful.

Department of Fish and Game conservation officers, fire personnel and state parks staff helped carry Griswold down to the trailhead.
