AUGUSTA — A pair of New Yorkers is among a group of three people arrested Monday after a search reportedly turned up crack cocaine at a Glenridge Drive apartment that also is home to at least two children.

The trafficking charges are the most recent to be lodged against New York City residents by state and local agencies in recent weeks.

Monday’s arrests included two men from Bronx, N.Y.: Kenneth Floyd, 21, and Robert Lonnie Dixon, 34, both of whom were charged with aggravated trafficking in crack cocaine.

Matthew Jepsen, 29, of Augusta, was arrested at the same time and charged with trafficking in crack cocaine.

The charges against Floyd and Dixon were aggravated because both men have felony drug convictions, said Commander Darrell Crandall of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Dixon and Floyd were being held in Kennebec County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and Jepson on $25,000 bail, Crandall said. All three are expected to make their initial court appearance Wednesday.

Agents seized approximately 17 grams of crack cocaine valued at $1,700 and $8,192 in cash that is alleged to be proceeds from the sale of crack, Crandall said.

Detective Sgt. Matthew Clark of the Augusta Police said two children who live in the apartment stayed with a neighbor while police conducted the search.

The children’s mother was called at work and arrived home a short time later, Clark said. Agents contacted the Maine Department of Health & Human Services to follow up with the families, Clark said.

The children, whose ages were unavailable, were left in the care of their mother. There were no charges against her, Clark said.

Lowell Woodman, supervisor for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, said there are a number of children who live at the apartment complex and the surrounding complexes.

The criminal investigation that led to the search and arrests has been going on more than a month. No additional details are being released at this time. More arrests are possible, Crandall said.

A number of agencies participated in Monday’s search, including Augusta Police and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.

A half-dozen New Yorkers have been charged with trafficking drugs in Central Maine over the past two weeks.

Two men and a woman, all in their early 30s, were arrested June 19 after what Crandall described as a two-month investigation that was launched after reports that the trio was selling crack cocaine and heroin in the greater Augusta area. The group was staying at an area hotel where agents reportedly found 57 grams of crack cocaine, 10 grams of heroin and $1,300 cash.

The day before, June 18, Waterville police arrested a 31-year-old Bronx man on charges of three counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated forgery and unlawful possession of drugs after a search of a Ticonic Street apartment reportedly uncovered crack cocaine, heroin, powdered cocaine, oxycodone pills and a small amount of marijuana. The drugs had a street value of about $40,000, Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey said at the time.

The same search led to charges against two Waterville residents, ages 27 and 37, on charges of trafficking and possession charges.
