AUGUSTA — A two-vehicle accident near the gate of the VA Maine Healthcare System hospital at Togus, on Eastern Avenue and Spring Road in Augusta, this afternoon sent the driver of one of those vehicles to a hospital, according to police.

A pickup truck, driven by John Hastings, 28, of Augusta, was driving south on Spring Road into Togus with a green light around 1:30 p.m. when it was hit broadside by a minivan, driven by Michael Severson, 37, of Warren, according to Augusta Police Sgt. Christopher Shaw.

He said that Hastings was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
