CARTHAGE – A 15-year-old boy was killed Sunday night in Carthage while riding a dirt bike with friends, according to the Maine Warden Service.

The victim was staying with friends at the time. He was riding the motorized, two-wheel dirt bike on Smith Road, and carrying a coil of rope when the rope became entangled in the bike’s rear wheel. The boy became entangled in the rope as well, according to a news release from the warden service.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. His body was taken to Meador and Son Funeral Home in Rumford, and will be examined by the state Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Franklin County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident, which remains under investigation.
