AUGUSTA — Two men were sentenced this week after successfully completing the Co-Occurring Disorders Court program in Kennebec County.

Michael F. Smith, 56, of Winthrop and Augusta, was sentenced to three years, in jail with all but 60 days suspended and two years’ probation on a conviction for theft by unauthorized taking or transfer. He was given credit for 60 days he already serviced.

The theft occurred June 1, 2010, in Chelsea.

Jacob R. York, 22, of Augusta, was sentenced to six years in prison, all suspended, and four years’ probation on a conviction for gross sexual assault. He also was required to register as a lifetime offender under the state’s Sex Offender Registration & Notification Act.

The offense occurred Oct. 3, 2009, in Chelsea.

Smith spent more than a year, and York more than two years, in the closely monitored program designed to aid offenders dealing with mental illness and substance abuse problems.

The two will be among those participating in a Co-Occurring Disorders Court/Veterans Court graduation ceremony Sept. 17 in Kennebec County Superior Court.
