CLAREMONT, N.H. — A New Hampshire man has been accused of breaking into the home of a disabled man, stealing a dollar and a gift card before getting arrested.

Eric Richmond of Newport was arrested at about 3 a.m. Tuesday when police responding to the break-in at a Claremont apartment house found him in the halls of the building. Bail for the 23-year-old Richmond was set at $10,000; he did not have a lawyer.

The Eagle Times reports Richmond told police he went to the building to look for an open apartment because he needed money for cigarettes. Police said he was carrying a knife.
