SKOWHEGAN — The body of a Main Street man found near his home showed no signs of injury or  trauma, police said Wednesday.

There was no suicide note and no weapon found with the remains of 40-year-old Vaughn Giggey III, who disappeared Friday night. The body was discovered about noon Tuesday by a state trooper with a search dog in a deep, wooded ravine across from Redington-Fairview General Hospital.

An autopsy performed Wednesday morning by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta was inconclusive, Skowhegan police Chief Ted Blais said. He said Skowhegan police Detective Ronnie Blodgett was present for the autopsy.

“There was no blunt trauma, no broken vertebrae, nothing like that; so at this time, the cause of death is still pending,” Blais said.

Blais said the cause and manner of death are not considered suspicious. A toxicology report on Giggey could take several weeks to complete, he said.

Giggey’s body was found in a wooded area in Currier Brook between Main Street and Fairview Avenue near the hospital’s helicopter pad.

He reportedly left his apartment about 10 p.m. Friday to walk to his mother’s house on Chamberlain Street. That’s the last time he was heard from.

Search dogs from the Maine Warden Service and Maine State Police spent Tuesday morning looking for Giggey. A Warden Service airplane and members of Maine Search and Rescue Dogs also were sent to the area, before the body was found about noon.

Blais said the case remains an active investigation.

Detective Daryl Gordon met with Giggey’s brother Andrew and Andrew’s girlfriend Wednesday and still has several people to interview to learn what might have happened to Giggey.

Arthur Giggey, 35, said Vaughn did not have a flashlight in the dark or even his cellphone for light and may have lost his way in the thick underbrush. Family members said they were told by Giggey’s girlfriend, Brandy Remmers, that Giggey had not been drinking alcohol that night.
