WINTHROP — The Winthrop United Methodist Church is expanding its clothing ministry, “Tabitha’s Closet,” to operate year-round, the organization announced recently.

A grand opening will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 14, at the new location on the second floor of the church, 72 Main St. Clothing for all ages will be available at no cost. The closet’s regular hours will be 9 a.m.-noon on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.

A part-time ministry of the church for several years, Tabitha’s Closet has opened in August to provide clothing and school supplies, and again in December to offer clothes and books, toys, and other Christmas gift items.

The closet is run by volunteers, a not-for-profit endeavor to serve the people of Winthrop and surrounding communities. Donations of clean, gently-used clothing and new socks and underwear — in packages — are welcome.
