The father of missing Waterville toddler Ayla Reynolds was in Cumberland County Jail Monday after being arrested Friday in South Portland for allegedly violating his bail conditions.

South Portland police Sgt. John Sutton said Monday that Justin DiPietro was stopped by Officer Scott Corbett just after 11 a.m. Friday on Broadway.

“He was pulled over driving a car with an expired inspection sticker,” Sutton, the on-duty shift commander, said around 7 p.m. “One of his current bail conditions — there were two of them — was that he not use or possess alcohol and he must submit to random searches and testing. The vehicle was searched during the traffic stop, and alcohol was found in the vehicle, and he was arrested for the possession of alcohol.”

Sutton said DiPietro was cooperative during the stop.

DiPietro, 26, was arrested July 6 in Portland and charged with domestic violence assault on his ex-girlfriend, Courtney Roberts. A police lieutenant reported seeing him grab and push Roberts at 11:15 p.m. on Spring Street in Portland.

A Cumberland County Jail spokesman said just before 7 p.m. that DiPietro had appeared in court earlier in the day and was being held at the jail on $350 cash bail.

Ayla Reynolds was reported missing from her 29 Violette Ave., Waterville home Dec. 17, 2011. DiPietro told police he had last seen his daughter in her bed at 10 p.m. the night before.

She has not been seen since.

Police have said those who were at the DiPietro home the night 20-month-old Ayla disappeared — Justin DiPietro, Roberts, and DiPietro’s sister, Elisha DiPietro — know more about her disappearance than they are saying.

Police, firefighters and game wardens searched the neighborhood, and later, FBI agents, neighbors and volunteers joined in, but with no success.

On May 31, 2012, local and state police held a press conference in Waterville and said Ayla was likely no longer alive.
