AUBURN — Two passing motorists are being hailed as heroes for saving the lives of three men trapped inside a burning vehicle.
Auburn Fire Department Battalion Chief Dean Milligan says there’s “no doubt” in his mind that the passers-by saved the men who were trapped inside the vehicle after it rolled over and burst into flames at about 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.
He says the man and the woman were in separate vehicles when they came upon the crash scene before emergency responders arrived.
The unidentified woman attacked the fire with bottled water and a jacket. The man, identified as Pawel Kruszewski of Auburn, used a knife to cut the seat belts and pull the men from the vehicle. They were identified as 40-year-old David Call and 48-year-old Ronald Call of Lisbon.
“It’s one of those things,” Kruszewski told the Lewiston Sun-Journal. “Car was on fire – you just gotta yank them out.”
The Calls were taken to the hospital. The driver, 43-year-old Robert Hack of Lisbon, was cited for driving without a license.
