OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The game plan for the Winthrop/Monmouth football team in Week 2 was the same as it was in Week 1.

Run the ball and run it some more.

Zach Glazier rushed for three touchdowns and Jacob Weeks rushed for another as the Winthrop/Monmouth co-operative team pulled away from Old Orchard Beach 24-6 in a Western D Campbell Conference game Friday night at Joe Regina Field.

“We wanted to wear them down,” Winthrop/Monmouth coach Joel Stoneton said. “We picked up some big-hitters for touchdowns once we did.”

The Ramblers are 2-0 for the first time since it won six straight to begin the 2010 campaign.

“It’s been a long time since we were 2-0,” Stoneton said. “It feels pretty good.”

Oak Hill 8, Dirigo 6: Luke Washburn caught a 22 yard pass from Parker Asselin in the first quarter and that was good enough for the Raiders in the Class D matchup in Dixfield. Klye Flaherty, who had a strong game on offense, rushed the two-point conversion. Alex Mace added three key receptions for the winners for 45 yards.

The Cougars drew to within two points with 30 seconds left but failed to convert the conversion attempt. Oak Hill is 2-0, dirigo is 1-1.
