AUGUSTA — A new service in central Maine allows people to anonymously send text tips to law enforcement about underage drinking and illegal sharing of alcohol and drugs.

The Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Gardiner Police Department recently announced “KVTip,” a mobile text message tip service. Residents will be able to anonymously get in touch with law enforcement about underage drinking and substance abuse concerns that require a response.

The departments say people can now use text messages, mobile phone applications or submit the information online.

Residents can send tips by texting 274637 and beginning their message with the code KVTIP, which stands for Kennebec Valley Tip.
