AUGUSTA — A special committee that will be overseeing Maine’s health care exchange under the federal health care overhaul is meeting for the first time this week.

The Maine Health Exchange Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday at the State House.

It includes lawmakers, insurance company representatives and consumer advocates.

The group was created to review how well the state’s federally run exchange is working. On Monday, it will discuss the various health plans being offered on the exchange and the outreach efforts being done to educate the public on the upcoming changes.

Enrollment on the health care marketplace begins Oct. 1, and coverage begins Jan. 1. Maine opted to let the federal government run its exchange.
