State police arrested an Oakland man on several charges after a chase Tuesday night.

Ronnie McBreairty, 30, was taken to the Kennebec County jail, where he had been released a day earlier after his arrest on charges of failure to pay a fine.

Lt. Aaron Hayden said McBreairty’s new charges include felony operating under the influence, failing to stop, eluding a police officer and operating after suspension. Hayden said McBreairty has 23 license suspensions and two OUI convictions.

State police received a report of erratic operation on routes 11 and 8 in North Belgrade around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The 1993 Chevy pickup truck, going south, passed Trooper Breanne Petrini and she tried to stop it for speeding. The pickup increased its speed, up to 75 mph, she said, as it headed through North Belgrade on routes 11 and 8. The speed limit on the road ranges from 45 to 50 mph.

Hayden said the pickup began to pull over at one point, but then it took off again, at which point Petrini reported she was in pursuit of it.

Hayden said the pickup, driven erratically and weaving, turned right onto Taylor Woods Road, then north onto Route 8 and left onto Horse Point Road, where Trooper Samuel Tlumac also joined the chase.

The pickup then turned onto Stevens Road, pulled into a driveway and stopped, and troopers arrested McBreairty, he said.
