NEWPORT— A mobile home on Tyler Street was destroyed by fire Wednesday night.

The cause of the fire at 102 Tyler St. was undetermined and is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, according to Assistant Fire Chief Rick Turner, of the Newport Fire Department.

He said the fire, which was reported shortly before 7 p.m., appeared to have originated in the kitchen. The home belongs to James Galliger, said Turner.

Turner said the interior of the home was destroyed.

Galliger and his tenant, the man who lived in the home and was not identified at the scene, didn’t want to comment to a reporter.

Firefighters from Corinna and Pittsfield also responded.

No one was home when the fire started and there were no injuries reported, said Turner.
