NORRIDGEWOCK — A man was taken to the hospital Friday afternoon after suffering an ax injury to the head.

Police are investigating the incident, but Chief Deputy Dale Lancaster of the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department said there was nothing to suggest criminal activity.

The man, a resident of Walker Road, was hurt seriously enough to require an ambulance to take him to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, 10 miles away.

The man, who Lancaster would not name, was conscious and was able to speak with responding officers and medical emergency workers who responded to the call, Lancaster said.

“It looks like the gentleman was working in his yard,” Lancaster said.

He said the man was working on his truck about 3:30 p.m., and that no one else was on the property at the time.

He said he was unsure exactly how the accident happened.

“We’re trying to work that out right now,” he said.
