NEW VINEYARD — Fire marshals are seeking witnesses to a fire that burned a New Vineyard Road home to the ground early Friday morning.
No one was injured in the blaze.
The fire, at 1814 New Vineyard Road, was first reported around 2:30 a.m., fire officials said.
“It was reported by a passerby,” New Vineyard Fire Chief Doug Churchill said. “It was fully involved by the time we got there. Apparently, there wasn’t much traffic at that time of night.”
Churchill said the home is a rental that had not been occupied for about three weeks, and that no one was home at the time of the fire.
Sgt. Ken Grimes of the Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal said the extent of the damage has made it difficult to learn how the fire began. The cause is currently listed as undetermined, but that could change if members of the public come forward with information related to the fire.
“This will be a witness-driven investigation,” he said.
Firefighters from Farmington, New Portland, Temple and Strong assisted, and fire crews left the scene by 8 a.m.
