To those who worry about X-mas being an unacceptable substitute for Christmas, let me put your minds at ease.

The use of X-mas goes back to the 16th century Christian church. The use of the X, the Greek letter chi, was used because of its resemblance to the cross. The “mas” is shorthand for the Mass. So X-mas is Chi-mas or Christ’s Mass ,and its use is proper just as fully as writing out Christmas.

Happy Holidays!
