AUGUSTA — Widespread power outages caused by a two-day ice storm have prompted Gov. Paul LePage to shut down all state offices in Kennebec County, including Augusta.
LePage announced Tuesday that because of the power outages and hazardous driving conditions, state offices in Kennebec County and the town of Ellsworth will be closed.
Because Wednesday is Christmas, the offices are not expected to reopen until Thursday.
Central Maine Power Co. was reporting more than 34,000 customers without electricity in Kennebec County alone, including almost 4,000 in the state capital of Augusta.
