BANGOR — A Connecticut man is facing charges in Maine after allegedly breaking into a locked bus station in Bangor on Christmas Day.

Police say 42-year-old Dale Quereux of Plainville, Conn., told officers he was trying to provide a warm place to shelter for himself and more than a dozen other bus passengers who were dropped off late Wednesday morning only to find themselves stranded in the cold outside the locked station.

Investigators say surveillance video shows Quereux forcing his way into the station’s back door, rummaging through some cabinets, and stealing a hammer he used to break a car window.

He is charged with burglary and criminal mischief.

He is free on $500 bail.

The station’s manager says the bus was not supposed to drop anyone off at that station.
