CLINTON — The organic farmer who allegedly tried to shoot his girlfriend before shooting himself won’t face charges until his condition improves, police said Tuesday afternoon.
Edward Domasinsky, 55, remained in serious condition Tuesday afternoon in a Portland hospital after he shot himself in the face during a fight Sunday morning with his girlfriend, Linda Owens, 46.
Evidence so far supports Owens’ claim that Domasinsky tried to shoot her before shooting himself, according to Sgt. Rusty Bell of the Clinton Police Department.
Owens was burned by the gun blast when she deflected the barrel as she was shot at. She was treated and released from Inland Hospital in Waterville on Sunday.
Owens and Domasinsky have been in a relationship for a couple of years, according to Bell, and she had recently moved into the two-story house with garden beds in the yard at 544 Horseback Road in a remote area of town.
Any charges against Domasinsky will be determined after the investigation is completed, he said. If the investigation is finished before his condition improves, charges against Domasinsky will wait until his health is more stable, Bell said.
“He’s going to have to be in a medical condition where he can understand and respond to our charges,” Bell said.
Owens fled the residence after the first shot and heard Domasinsky shoot himself while running to the house of a neighbor, who called police, according to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
When Clinton police officer Karl Roy arrived, he found Domasinsky conscious and alert sitting in his truck in the home’s dirt driveway, according to Bell. Roy helped Domasinsky out of the truck and went with him for medical treatment before Domasinsky was taken by Lifeflight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Domasinsky is an organic farmer and soil plant specialist who sometimes gave advice to gardeners in the area, according to previous Morning Sentinel reports.
He classified himself on his Facebook page as being “in an open relationship.”
Attempts to contact the Domasinsky family were unsuccessful.
