The budget development will begin with a series of workshops featuring proposals for schools and cost centers in the school district, which includes Manchester, Mount Vernon, Readfield and Wayne.

On Wednesday, the board will review regular education at the elementary schools, middle school and high school; on Feb. 5 special education, English language learners and gifted and talented; and on Feb. 26, other areas including technology, school activities and sports, administration and professional development.

On March 15, the school board will conduct a joint meeting with the town boards of selectmen to discuss the budget.

The school board will then deliberate and make decisions at meetings scheduled for March 19, March 26, April 2 and April 9. Approval of the board’s final budget is expected at the April 16 regular school board business meeting.

The annual RSU budget meeting, at which voters can debate, amend and vote on the budget, will take place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 7 in the high school gym. The budget will then go to a referendum in the towns on Tuesday, June 10.
