CLINTON — The condition of a man who shot himself in the face during a domestic fight earlier this month has deteriorated and he will not be charged unless his health improves, according to police.

Edward Domasinsky, 55, was seriously injured when he shot himself in the face after allegedly attempting to shoot girlfriend Linda Owens during a fight on Jan. 5. His condition has since gotten worse, according to Sgt. Rusty Bell of the Clinton Police Department.

Somerset County District Attorney Maeghan Maloney said Domasinsky is now on life support.

“Once we ascertain whether or not he will be recovering, we’ll be making a final decision as to what we’re going forward on,” Maloney said.

Owens was burned from the gun blast when she deflected the gun barrel away from her, police said. She was treated for injuries at the time.

Domasinsky and Owens, 46, had been in a relationship for a couple of years at the time of the shooting, according to Bell.

A spokeswoman at Maine Medical Center in Portland had no information on Domasinsky’s condition Tuesday afternoon.
