WATERVILLE —Ben Chwick scored his team-leading 12th goal with 1 minute, 22 seconds left to give the Colby men’s hockey team a 2-1 win over Williams College in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game Friday night.

Chwick scored from the left side of the goal with an assist from Nick Lanza and Jack Bartlett to give Colby (9-5-3, 6-4-1) the win.

The loss was the first in conference play for Williams (10-3-2, 6-1-2).

Colby and Williams also played to a 1-1 tie in the season opener.

Colby took a 1-0 lead at 4:02 of the first period on a goal by Tyler Lingel. Williams tied it at 11:37 of the first period on a goal by Tyler Young.

Sam Parker had 31 saves for Colby, while Sean Dougherty had 14 saves for Williams.

New Hampshire 3, Maine 2: The Wildcats scored a goal in each period and beat the Black Bears in a Hockey East game in Durham, N.H.

Nick Sorkin scored in the first period, Eric Knodel in the second and Jay Camper in the third for UNH (13-12-1, 5-5-0 in Hockey East).

Will Merchant scored in the first period and Mark Anthoine in the third for Maine (11-8-3, 5-3-2 in Hockey East).

Martin Ouellette had 27 saves for Maine, while Casey DeSmith had 34 for UNH.

Men’s basketball

Castleton 93, UM-Farmington 83: Chad Copeland had 23 points and eight rebounds as the Spartans won a North Atlantic Conference game in Castleton, Vt.

Logan White added 18 points for Castleton (9-5, 7-1), while Steve Rosemond had 16 points and Carnelius Green 11.

Andrew Dickey scored a game-high 34 points and also grabbed 11 rebounds for UMF (6-8, 4-4). Maranacook Community School graduate Ben Johnson added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Pet Sumner chipped in with 15.

Women’s hockey

Northeastern 4, Maine 3: Kelly Wallace scored in overtime as the Wildcats beat the Black Bears in a Hockey East game in Boston.

Brittany Esposito scored late in the third period to tie it for Northeastern (10-12-2, 6-6-2 in the conference). Maine (3-14-3, 1-9-3 in Hockey East) had taken a 3-2 lead on a goal by Hailey Browne earlier in the period.

Maggie Brennolt scored in the second to give Northeastern a 1-0 lead. Maine tied it later in the period on a goal by Audra Richards. Brianne Kilgour made it 2-1 Maine in the third before Heather Mottau scored to tie it.

NORDIC

WOMEN: Colby’s Olivia Amber placed 17th at the New Hampshire Carnival at the Jackson Touring Center in Jackson, N.H. Amber finished the 5-kilometer race in 15 minutes, 16.1 seconds. Lizzie Anderson was 19th (15:21.7) and Sarah Brockett 24th (15:37.9). The Mules finished eighth in the team standings with 65 points, but were just five points out of sixth place.

MEN: John Dixon was the first Colby male to cross the finish line, clocking in at 26:49.8 for 23rd place over the 10-kilometer course at the New Hampshire Carnival at the Jackson Touring Center in Jackson, N.H. Jefferson Tucker was 24th for Colby in 26:50.3 and Paco DeFrancis was 34th (27:13.7). Colby was ninth in the team standings.

ALPINE

WOMEN: Jeanne Barthold continued her strong season for Colby, placing 20th at the University of New Hampshire Carnival at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, N.H. Barthold finished with a two-run time of 2:31.4. Brittney Ziebell was 22nd in 2:31.8 while Paige Whistler was 24th in 2:33.3. The women finished seventh.

MEN: Michael Boardman had the best finish of his career taking 11th place in the giant slalom for Colby at the University of New Hampshire Carnival at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, N.H. Boardman finished in 2:21.55. Colby captain Matt McKenna was 19th in 2:23.35. The Mules finished seventh.
